Introduce five influential Black Canadians with short biography passages and comprehension questions for grades 2–5: Elijah McCoy, Jean Augustine, Viola Desmond, Lincoln Alexander, and Mary Ann Shadd Cary.
Each biography includes one reading page, one page with three questions, and the closing page. Answer keys are not included. You’ll receive two bonus activities: a 100 Days of School writing and coloring sheet and a Maya Angelou coloring page. Seven PDF files contain 19 total pages, including closing pages.
You can read together first, then invite students to explain their answers and point to the part of the passage that helped them.
